how to survive an IVF cycle

According to the Infertility Guide or some such title it is good to start a little care package for yourself while going through this month of shots and emotional stress.

they suggest:
some fun movies - I got all of the 10 Commandments (The Decalogue) by Kieslowski
light reading, magazines - I've got the Nation and New York Review of Books
fun bath oil, pampering goods - I've got needles and alcohol swabs
special treats - I've got some good olives
spa appointments - I'm taking my cat for her shots

something tells me I'm just not girly enough for this crap
can one get pregnant without chick flicks, chick lit, face masks and sparkly toenail polish?

My acupuncturist tells me I'm yin deficient. Which means a lot of things but mostly it boils down to me not being woman enough. (yin is woman energy, yan is man energy) I work like a man, eat like a man, not into the chit-chat girly stuff like a man, etc. I don't know what I should make of that but it sort of makes you think; if we were more woman-like, whatever that means, would be less infertile?

Hey Penelope. Thanks for the comment on my blog. Personally I pondered massage therapy and acupuncture pre-IVF but did neither. I tried a little meditation to try and stay calm which was very necessary as everything turned to shit!

I had a good supply of magazines and books though it ended up that I just seemed to want to sleep for days after retrieval. I never even picked up my cross-stitch. I think just go with the flow and whatever feels comforting to you, do it.

Do what feels like you. However, I think you should lay off the Nation, I know I can't read it anymore - makes me too depressed and angry about the state of things. Read Yoga Journal instead, it's empowering and there are lots of pretty pictures.

you're right InSpring - Yoga Journal is good - Shambhala is also soothing even though I'm not a Buddhist - any other positive/light reading magazines for those of us who are just too lefty-feminist to handle Glamour and all that?

Maybe garden porn? Gardens Illustrated? but usually that just makes me feel envious
